Climb with your family.
Just Climb
At Algarve Sea Adventures, surf lessons are not about volume—they are about results.
For over 10 years, we have been the Algarve’s only surf school fully specialised in family surf coaching, with one clear focus: quality through structure, safety, and small groups.
Our group and private lessons are built for parents who expect professional coaching and for children who need time, attention, and trust in the ocean. For kids under 13, we work with a strict 1:4 coaching ratio. This allows close supervision, faster confidence-building, and measurable progress from the very first session.
Small groups are not an upgrade for us—they are the foundation of how we teach.
Less waiting, more waves, clear feedback, and a learning environment where families progress safely and efficiently.

Family Climb Trip - Group
Our Group Family Climb Trip in the Algarve is designed for families who enjoy climbing together with others in a supportive and motivating environment. This small-group outdoor climbing experience combines professional instruction, carefully selected limestone crags, and a structured yet relaxed atmosphere—ideal for beginners, children, and mixed-ability families.
Unlike private sessions, group trips bring several families together. This creates a positive dynamic where children often gain confidence by watching others climb, and parents appreciate the shared experience and community spirit. While the structure remains professional and safety-focused, the session benefits from collective motivation and encouragement.
We focus on easy limestone routes in quiet inland climbing areas near Lagos, selected based on weather, shade, group composition, and safety conditions. All climbs are set up as secure top-rope systems, providing a controlled and beginner-friendly introduction to outdoor rock climbing in Portugal.
At the crag, the certified climbing guide provides a clear safety briefing and manages all rope systems and or introduce the parents into the belaying of their kids. Coaching is adapted to different ability levels within the group. Route difficulty and progression are adjusted to ensure that each participant climbs at a suitable level while benefiting from the group setting.
Children often develop confidence through shared experiences, while parents value the structured organization and professional supervision. The learning pace is steady and supportive, though naturally coordinated with the overall group flow.
As with all family climbing sessions: when a child is not actively climbing, parents remain responsible for supervision, as the guide must focus on the climber currently on the rope.
The Group Family Climb Trip is an excellent option for families seeking a high-quality, professionally guided climbing experience in the Algarve at a more accessible price point, while still maintaining strong safety standards and a positive outdoor atmosphere.
Experience rock climbing in the Algarve in a social, family-oriented setting with our Family Climb Trip, designed for families who enjoy climbing together with others in a relaxed and supportive group environment. This structured session combines professional coaching, carefully selected inland crags, and a friendly atmosphere—ideal for first-time climbers, children, and families who appreciate shared experiences.
Your experience begins with a Meet & Greet at Quinta Formosinho, where your climbing instructor welcomes all participating families. Each climber is equipped with high-quality gear, including helmet, harness, and climbing shoes, professionally fitted for safety and comfort. All equipment complies with current European safety standards and is regularly inspected.
After equipment fitting and completion of the required waivers, we head to one of our selected inland climbing areas near Lagos. For returning families with previous experience, sessions may also take place near the scenic cliffs of Vila do Bispo. The exact location is chosen on the same day based on weather, shade, group composition, and overall safety, ensuring suitable conditions for all participants.
At the crag, your instructor sets up secure top-rope systems and provides a clear safety briefing for the entire group. A short warm-up climb prepares adults and children for movement on natural rock. Coaching is adapted to different ability levels within the group, allowing each family member to progress at their own pace while benefiting from the positive dynamic of climbing alongside others.
Safety remains our highest priority. Our certified instructors supervise all climbing activities, manage rope systems, and maintain continuous oversight. The structured group setup ensures a secure environment while creating space for encouragement, shared motivation, and collective achievement.
After approximately two to three hours of climbing, we dismantle the systems and return to Quinta Formosinho—typically with new skills, strengthened confidence, and the added value of having shared the experience with other families.

Family Climb Trip - Private
In a private setting, the entire session is shaped around your family—your children’s confidence levels, attention span, and energy, as well as the parents’ wishes. The guide can adjust route difficulty, timing, and explanations in real time, allowing for more flexibility, calmer transitions, and a learning speed that feels natural for everyone.
We focus on easy limestone routes in a quiet and scenic environment, creating a stress-free introduction to outdoor climbing. Children often benefit from the extra attention, while parents appreciate the unhurried structure and clear guidance.
As with all family sessions: when a child is not climbing, parents remain responsible for supervision, as the guide must focus on the active climber.
The private family trip includes up to 4 family members and offers a more focused, personal experience—ideal for younger children, mixed confidence levels, or families who value privacy and flexibility.
Experience rock climbing in the Algarve at its highest standard with our Private Family Climbing Experience, designed for families who value safety, quality, and personal attention. This premium climbing session offers exclusive coaching, carefully selected inland crags, and a calm, structured approach—ideal for first-time climbers and families with children.
Your experience begins with a Meet & Greet at Quinta Formosinho, where your dedicated climbing instructor welcomes your family. Each participant is equipped with high-quality climbing gear, including helmet, harness, and climbing shoes, professionally fitted for maximum comfort and safety. All equipment complies with current European safety standards and is inspected regularly.
After equipment fitting and completion of all required waivers, we head to one of the carefully selected inland climbing areas near Lagos or towards the scenic cliffs of Vila do Bispo if you climbed the second time with us. This ensures optimal climbing conditions and a relaxed, family-friendly environment.
Upon arrival at the crag, your instructor sets up secure top-rope systems and provides a structured safety briefing. A short warm-up climb prepares both adults and children for movement on the rock. Coaching is fully adapted to your family’s level, with particular attention to first-time climbers and young participants. Safety remains our highest priority. Our certified instructors supervise all climbing activities, manage rope systems, and maintain continuous visual and verbal contact. Families climb in a controlled setup designed to build confidence, trust, and technical foundation from the first ascent.

We Offer Two Climbing Formats
We offer two formats: Group Climb Trips and Private Climb Sessions — both following the same professional safety framework and instructional standards.
Group sessions take place in small, level-matched groups to maintain efficiency, safety, and structured progression. Private sessions allow full flexibility and 100% focus on individual or family-specific goals. No overcrowded crags, no chaotic rope setups, and no generic “try this wall” routines.
Our climbing sessions are deliberately structured and time-efficient. We follow a clear approach: focused safety briefing, well-prepared rope systems, quality climbing time, and constructive feedback. Energy is directed where it matters most—movement on the rock and confidence building.
This structured timing is particularly important for families with children. Managing attention span, maintaining warmth, and ensuring smooth transitions between climbs makes the difference between fatigue and steady progress.

No prior experience is required. Family climbing sessions are designed for beginners. Instructors provide a structured safety briefing, equipment introduction, and step-by-step guidance on easy limestone routes.

We hope you had an exciting session and will be hungry for more :)
Please note: We only have space in the van for the participants so if you book your kid(s) into our courses we CANNOT guarantee a space in the van for the parent to come along - even though we love families to be together.

Lagos | Fundamental Area
If you're new to climbing — or just want something chill — or you are feared of height — this is the perfect place to start.
- Inland
- 10min drive & 10min hike
- quiet and offers various fun limestone routes between grades 4 and 6b (that's easy to moderate).
You can climb on top rope or try leading — whatever fits your level. We'll coach you on basic climb techniques, climbing knots and belay skills with a GriGri belay device. The perfect spots for families.
Don't worry if you're unsure about your level or heights — we'll guide you step by step.
Sagres Cliffs | Coastal Climbing
Now, this one's wild — climbing right above the ocean! The Sagres cliffs are famous for their views and solid limestone. Routes here are usually between grades 4 and 6a+, and we can set them up for top rope or lead.
To climb here, you should know basic safety and be able to belay with an auto-locking device, we use the GriGri. If that's not you yet, no stress — start with the Lagos session first, and we'll get you ready for the cliffs in no time.
For the Experienced Climbers
Already climbing 6a or above? Then you'll love our intermediate and advanced cliff sessions. These routes go from 6a to 7a, with technical moves, amazing exposure, and the ocean right below your feet. We run these mostly from April to October (and on sunny winter days too).
Each trip lasts about 4–5 hours — just enough for a full climbing day without feeling rushed.
