Climb & Surf

Climb. Surf. Explore. Repeat.

Looking for more than just another surf camp or climbing holiday? Our Climb & Surf Camp combines the best of both worlds. Spend your mornings chasing waves along the stunning Algarve coastline and your afternoons discovering hidden climbing crags, sea cliffs and breathtaking viewpoints.

Based at our relaxed Climb & Surf Camp Quinta Formosinho in Praia da Luz, you'll join a small international group of like-minded adventurers who share a passion for the ocean, the outdoors and active travel.

Whether you're completely new to climbing or surfing, or already have experience in one or both sports, our certified local instructors adapt every session to your level. Small groups, personal coaching and daily location selection ensure the best possible experience and progression throughout the week.

What makes this camp special is the variety. One day you might be learning your first turns on a surfboard, the next day climbing sunlit limestone cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. Between sessions, enjoy the pool, relax in the garden, explore Praia da Luz or simply unwind with your new camp friends.

The Algarve offers over 300 days of sunshine per year, world-class surf spots and some of Portugal's most beautiful climbing areas — creating the perfect playground for an unforgettable outdoor holiday.

Our Climb & Surf Camp combines guided rock climbing adventures with professional surf lessons, giving you the opportunity to experience two of the Algarve's most popular outdoor activities during one active holiday.

For climbing, we focus on small groups, personal coaching and carefully selected climbing areas around Lagos, Sagres and the Western Algarve. This allows our guides to adapt each session to the group's experience level while maintaining a high standard of safety and individual feedback.

Surf lessons are provided by our trusted local surf school partners. Depending on the season and participant numbers, lessons take place in level-based groups with dedicated beginner, intermediate and advanced coaching. Daily surf locations are selected according to ocean conditions to ensure the best possible learning environment.

For independent climbers and surfers, participation in lessons is completely optional. Many guests simply use our camp as a comfortable base for their own adventures. Surfboard rental, wetsuit rental and climbing equipment rental are available, allowing experienced guests to explore the Algarve's world-class surf spots and climbing areas at their own pace.

Whether you join every lesson, mix guided activities with independent days, or simply use the camp as your adventure basecamp, our flexible format allows you to create the Algarve holiday that suits you best.

Praia do Amado

Why is the West Coast
Ideal for surf lessons

High wave consistency thanks to open Atlantic exposure
Variable peaks suitable for beginners and progressing surfers
Clear beach layouts allowing safe supervision and efficient coaching

Surf Lessons on the West Coast

The west coast around Vila do Bispo offers some of the most consistent and versatile surf conditions in the Algarve. Open Atlantic swells meet wide sandy beaches with changing sandbanks, creating ideal conditions for structured surf lessons with clear learning objectives.

Our west coast lessons are designed for families and adults who value quality, safety, and measurable progress. Based on daily swell, wind, and tide forecasts, we select the beach that offers the most suitable and calmest conditions on that day.

Praia da Luz

Surf Lessons on the South Coast of Lagos

The south coast of Lagos offers sheltered surf conditions that are particularly well suited for families, children, and first-time surfers. Beaches such as Meia Praia, Porto de Mós, and Praia da Luz provide calmer wave energy, gentle entries, and clear beach structures—ideal for controlled and safe learning environments.

Our south coast lessons are designed for families who value structure, safety, and confidence-based progression. These beaches are often protected from strong north-west winds, making them an excellent choice on days when the west coast is more powerful or demanding. As always, the final beach choice is made daily based on swell, wind, and tide conditions.

Why the South Coast
Works so well for surf lessons

Sheltered conditions with softer, more manageable waves
Wide, sandy beaches with easy access and clear zones
Ideal for children and beginners building ocean awareness
Reliable option when west coast conditions are stronger

The south coast is about confidence, repetition, and control. These beaches allow us to create a calm and supportive learning atmosphere where families can progress step by step—building solid foundations before moving on to more challenging conditions.
